PMO may agree to Bharat Ratna for Sachin

Sachin Tendulkar could be one step closer to receiving India's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna. Sources have said that the Prime Minister's Office will accept the Home Ministry's recommendations.
The Home Ministry had spoken to the Prime Minister's Office recommending that sports be made a category for conferring the Bharat Ratna.
Sports Minister Ajay Maken had recently written to the Home Ministry pushing for Bharat Ratna for cricketer Sachin Tendulkar after calls came from several quarters to felicitate the master blaster.
If accepted, this effectively clears way for Sachin, which will make him the first sportsperson to receive the nation's highest civilian award.
The Maharashtra Cricket Board's new head Vilasrao Deshmukh will also put in a word for Sachin by speaking to Maken and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Bharat Ratna is given for excellance in art, science, literature and public service.
